Had a hard time picking just one quote, so here are three from Ernest
Hemingway

"Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to
keep your mouth shut."

"An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with
his fools."

"As you get older it is harder to have heroes, but it is sort of
necessary."

Ernest Hemingway served as an ambulance driver for the red cross in
Italy during WWI, where he was badly injured by a mortar explosion.
During his six month recovery, he met and fell in love with a red
cross nurse. She later abandoned him before their wedding and married
an Italian soldier. Supposedly, this incident caused Hemingway to
leave many of his future brides before they had a chance to leave him.
